    Maceo Musicology Webcast (August'10)

    Maceo's Country BBQ Groove

Maceo Musicology Webcast (August '10) 8958038a

    "Welcome to Maceo's Country BBQ
Maxim and Jaytap are manning the grill
Purpleblues and Jfrost are handling the beers
    The music will be country,
but everything I do will be funky"

More of a personal webcast in that I grew up hating country music because my mother played it all the time. So, like Passport Groove, I had to find my own country groove afro

    Cool Genre
I grew up with the accepted knowledge that Johnny Cash was the nearest thing to musical perfection in my Father's view,
he only ever owned a few (Vinyl) albums, but anyone that had Otis Blue by Otis Redding and "I walk the line" by Mr Cash as their yardstick wasn't going far wrong.....
The Corona's are in the fridge, the limes are quartered, there's Jim Beam and ice..... The Jukebox is loaded and on free play, come on in!

Ugh! How did I miss this one???

Keep it on ice until my return to Aberystwyth, Mr Iceman, when I`m back in download-mode!!!

After Ringo Starr and Elvis Costello dabbled in country, I`ve started to appreciate the genre a little bit ... let`s see what you can do to this Laughing

The other scary man? Have you seen that picture of him accompanied by the two Egyptian ladies?! Or are you saving that one for your Bangles special? Laughing

    This is what I meant:

Purpleblues and The Egyptian Reggae`s: a funky blues band from near Reading. I`m trying to find a live video of them on youtube ...

It only took me 26 days?! I finally get a chance to listen to Maceo's latest offering! Laughing

Love it! And I'm not even a particular fan of country music - so thin ice to thread!
But this is great: cool tracks, wonderful playing, and a healthy dose of funk (=the barbeceau sauce?).
And all this melded into a beautiful podcast by Mr. Maceo - he gets better everytime! This one flows beautifully, with multilingual jingles, relaxed DJ chats and even a bit of a narrative running through it all! It's a winner!

Thanks for listening everyone! I grew up hating country because my mother played it all the time, and when I went back to the US in June, all the radio stations had turned country. So ended spending the time in the car listening to the stations and it turns out country music has come a long way. Perhaps not far enough for most folks, but anyway a nice slice of Americana for those across the pond that you might not normally hear

Ibtw, also realized that rap and country are similar in that most lyrics are about their respective lifestyles

Here are some videos from some of the featured songs
